From what I can tell, there is no specific version of vSphere required to use vApps. The “NEW vApp” option will be grayed depending on what level of the virtual inventory tree you have selected. For example, if I select my vCenter server then new vapp is grayed but if I select an ESX host then new vapp is available. No, I don’t have vCD.

What is necessary to use the vapp option? Do you need Enterprise Plus? DRS enabled? It is grayed out on my servers. Do you have to have vCD?
